Adam B. Spooner's winning trip to Poirier Fish and Game Territory
|
Where to start, Well how about with WOW. Poirier F&G Terr. Is located
about 90 min. from Maniwaki , QE and the last 1hr and 10 min is just to
cover about 26miles. If you’re looking for isolation, relaxation, and
some great fishing you’ve got to check this place out. The sunsets and
rises are filled with the songs of the Loon. There is abundant wildlife
everywhere you look and the fishing is great. If you like the hard-hitting
action that Northern Pike offers, this is a must. We (Bob Kipers and
myself) were able to catch the Mighty Northerns without much effort at
all. They ranged from 1 to 5 lbs and without stretching the truth I’m sure
that 20-30 lb.er’s are abundant. Lake Delahey just has this look about.
The look of a great fishery. The dark deep waters (that went to 118’ by
my portable fish finder which as the prior years winner told me is a
must) are home to some true Canadian monsters.
The main pavilion is full of pictures on the wall, that will prove to you that this is a great place to not only fish
but hunt as well. Yes I said hunt for all of you fellow big gamers. Poirier offers both Black Bear and Moose
hunting if fishing isn’t enough. If you nice maybe you can get Claire to take a moment from her busy day and
share some fishing and hunting stories with you, as she thumbs thru the many pages of her annual photo
albums.
If your pallet prefers the Haddock like taste of the Dorie or Walleye as we Americans call them, then Claire,
Frank, Andre, and Daniel are the people you want to talk to. It had rained for 23 consecutive days by our 4th day
so the Walleye action was slow. By the 5th day the rains had stopped and the sun came out. The fishing also
picked up and we were enjoying our shore lunches of mouth watering Walleye.

We didn’t catch any of those 10 pounders but the 12-17 inchers were
abundant. And let me tell you, those are the ones you want to eat. We
were able to catch enough on our last day to bring a limit home to share.
If you’re a shutter bug like me, then Poirier is also a place for you.
Between the loons and the wildlife, the sunrises and sets, and the fish,
you wont have any trouble capturing some amazing shots. There’s just
something about a sunrise with the morning fog lifting and a pair of
loons swimming by that makes you think, “It really doesn’t get and
better than this.” If you are looking to relax and have some great fishing
action, then leave the cell phone at home(they don’t work there anyway)
and take a trip to Poirier Fish and Game Territory and truly enjoy
yourself.
My thanks to my best fishing buddy Bob Kipers, the N.Y.O.C and the fine
folks at Poirier Fish and Game Territory for a great week.
