| Pheasant Ridge Kennels and Game Preserve By; Jim Hanlon Over the past several years I have attended many outdoor shows across the Northeast. I have met many people and made a lot of friends along the way. I have seen many eye catching things too. Things like head mounts of trophy deer, moose, salmon, trout and so on, but out of all the shows, the one show that i will never forget was at Turning Stone Casino in Oneida, NY, and it was a dog that caught my eye. This dog was sitting in a booth from Pheasant Ridge Kennels and Game Preserve that was directly across from our booth. It was the most beautiful dog I had ever seen. This dog, named Tigger, was so beautiful that it constantly had a crowd surrounding it. I mean people were in line to pet this animal. After a while I had to know what kind of dog this was, so I went over and introduced myself to it’s owner. I shook hands with Jeff Hofstetter, owner of Pheasant Ridge Kennels and Game Preserve, and asked him what breed of dog this was. It’s an English Cocker, and as Jeff and I talked more I new I had to have one of these magnificent animals for my own. Jeff informed me that I would have to wait for a dog, because the next litter wouldn't be available for a year or better. I placed my order on the spot! Over the course of a years time, I saw Jeff at several more shows, and at every show Jeff had his companion Tigger with him. The more I saw this dog, the more excited I became to have one of my own. In July of 09 I received a phone call from Jeff telling me I could finally come to Pheasant Ridge Kennels and pick out my new English Cocker puppy, so my wife and I jumped into the car and made the trip to Rome, NY to pick out our puppy. I’m telling you what, after a 15 month wait to pick out my dog, I didn’t get to pick out the dog. My wife picked out the dog and she made a terrific choice. Our new dog, that we named McGuinness, just loves attention and is as smart as any pup I’ve ever seen. The best part is, in almost 2 weeks of owning him, I have never seen a 8 week old puppy that sleeps through the night without having to go outside. When I get up in the morning I take him out and he does his business. He will even sit on command. Needless to say I am not sure if we are spoiling McGuinness, or McGuinness is spoiling us. In any case we are thrilled to have McGuinness as a new member of our family. Pheasant Ridge has 1 puppy ready to go right now to a good home. More about the owners of Pheasant Ridge Kennels and Game Preserve. Jeff and his wife Erin take great pride in their kennel. They offer not only English Cocker Spaniels, but Springer Spaniels, Black and Blond Labs, and even Irish Wolf Hounds. If you are looking ad a new member of your family I recommend checking out Pheasant Ridge Kennels. Pheasant Ridge is also a game preserve. They offer 300 acer’s of terrific Pheasant and Chucker hunting and they also provide the dogs to make the hunt more exciting. One more thing! Pheasant Ridge also offers a SPORTING CLAY COURSE that is now open to the public. It includes a 10 Stand 50 Round Course. A round of shooting is only $28.00. My partner, Dan Leonard, and I got to shoot a round on Jeff’s course, and I got to tell you, we had a blast. As avid deer hunters we always considering ourselves as pretty good shots with a rifle, but we both suck when it comes to shooting sporting clays. |
