Chuck Booker Shows Off Skills to Andy & Norb Kieffer
Well we made it back from the trip a few hours ago. I'll be sending the pic's in a couple different emails. I'll try to limit it to as few email's as possible. Below is my account for the weekend and this is for both Norb and I. We met up with Chuck at sunrise at the motel which was The Lake Ontario Motel. It was a neat place recommended by Chuck. Actually it was an old barn that was converted into a motel and was very nice. Chuck initially took us to one Lake Ontario tributary that he frequents and we did have some luck. The water was a bit higher than normal and very muddy overall. We could still see some fish but really didnt land many at all. This river is noted for its brown and not necessarily salmon.

We managed to bring in 3 browns and one Chinook. The browns where foul hooked but to no fault of our own. Norb landed the first Chinook of the weekend and it was a beauty. It was cleanly hooked and was a surprise. After 3 and a half hours with little to no luck we decided to try another Lake Ontario tributary. It didn’t take long before we had all the Chinooks we could handle. He’s not called Chinook Chuck Booker for nothing. All I can say to really describe the next day and a half was simply amazing. We landed somewhere between 20-25 salmon for the weekend. I am proud to say that most all where fairly hooked. Chuck is an amazing angler and a treasure trove of knowledge. He was more than willing to help us out with anything he could possibly do. He took the time to show us the right way to go about salmon fishing, what to look for in a river and the right tackle/equipment to use. I can honestly say, and would consider it crazy if someone ever told me they can land 15-20lb salmon on a 4 wt fly rod with 6lb test. He made me a believer. Heavy tackle is not everything and not always needed but you need to match it up with your environment not necessarily the fish.
Chuck was sure to let us know when we where using or doing something wrong. He was more than willing to share his tackle and tactics with us. For that Norb and I greatly appreciate that. I would like to thank Dan and Jim of NYOC for allowing this weekend to happen. We would especially like to thank Chuck for all of the time, energy and hard work that he put in for us. It was really nice to have someone sit down and take the time to show us "the way". We look forward to fishing again with Chuck in the future. One last thing. If someone ever tells you that Salmon don’t bite when they get in the rivers, they don’t know what they are talking about. Enjoy the pics. Thanks again, Dan, Jim and Chuck.
