My Brother-in-law and I recently took a trip to Battenkill Hunting Preserve in Salem, NY
for a wild boar hunt. When we arrived Richard gave us a tour of their three lodges. On
the way back to the main lodge we drove through the preserve and saw the deer, elk,
and buffalo. We were amazed at the size of the deer.
We had a quick bite to eat before we went out to hunt for our Boar. We had two guides
so that my brother-in-law and I could split up. We walked around for about an hour to an
hour and a half before I saw a nice boar. As I was getting ready to shoot it something
spooked it. We spotted another one that was really close but we let it go because it was
heading towards where my brother-in-law was. We started to walk again when I noticed
the boar coming back with another one. Richard told me to try to get my arm on the tree
and get ready to shoot. Right before I shot, my brother-in-law shot at the boar we stirred
up, and killed it. As soon as the one I was sighted in on cleared the little tree I took my
shot and got him.
Within a matter of a minute or so both my brother-in-law and I had gotten a boar and were
ready to head back to the lodge. Richard showed us around the preserve a little bit more
before it was time to get ready to eat. He prepared a wonderful meal for us and then we
sat around the lodge talking with the other guys that had come in to hunt the next day.
I had a wonderful time hunting at Battenkill Hunting Preserve and want to thank Richard
and his crew for showing us a great time. I would recommend this place to anyone who
wants to go out and have a nice time hunting and wants to learn a little bit about what
they are hunting.
Thanks to Jim and Dan for the chance to go on this trip.
