Hi Dan,

Here is the story, and some pics from the trip Mark Ziemba
won with White Ghost Charters.

My friend Mark called one evening and said he'd won a trip
from USOC and asked if I'd like to go. He explained the trip
was with White Ghost Charters in RI, and we'd be fishing
Stripers and Blues. It took all of 1 second to answer yes.
These were 2 species neither of us had fished for, so we
were excited at the opportunity. Mark scheduled the trip for
May 29 during the Memorial Day weekend.

We drove down the night before and Captain Jim White set
us up with a great discount at a nearby hotel. He met us at
5AM in the lobby, and after a 5 minute drive we arrived at the
marina for White Ghost Charters. It was very breezy so
Captain Jim decided to give it a try in the protected bay
where he was docked. This decision was key to our success,
and proved Captain Jim White knew his stuff.  Jim handed us
each a rod with top water poppers and we began fishing. It
wasn't long before we had a rise and Mark hooked the first
Striped Bass of the trip. What a blast this trip was going to
be. Stripers are extremely strong for their size, and watching
them blow up on surface lures added to the excitement. The
action was pretty much non stop in the early morning with a
lot of fish missing the lure, including some monsters. We
ended up catching and releasing 15 of the 16 stripers caught
between us. The other one went in the livewell.

Things slowed down a little around mid morning so Jim
chose to go out to a different spot. Again this turned out to
be a great decision as we got into the Bluefish almost
immediately. I couldn't help giggling like a school girl
watching these these fish attack our surface poppers. Blues
swim in schools and aren't shy when it comes to biting. We
had doubles on most of the time, and kept Jim busy
unhooking our fish. Blues are pure muscle, and thrash like
wild when pulled from the water. One of the fish sunk the
hook into the heavy gloves Jim had on, but luckily it missed
his hand. We ended the day with 24 Bluefish at this location.
We took some Blues home to smoke at the suggestion of our
captain, and he was right, they are delicious.

As we headed back to the marina Jim got a call from another
guide who had headed out farther into the bay.  The report
was they hadn't caught anything and had gotten beaten up
by the wind and waves. Hearing this we were thankful we
had a very knowledgeable guide who had made this trip so
memorable. Jim cleaned our catch for us when we docked,
and this was greatly appreciated.

What an absolute riot this trip was. The captain kept us
entertained with stories throughout the day, and kept us on
the fish. What more could you ask for in a guide? I would
highly recommend White Ghost Charters to anyone who
wants to have lots of action and a fantastic fishing
experience. This would be a great charter to do with the
family, because the action is fast and furious. I think I'll start
saving for a trip with the family for next year as a matter of
fact.

Thanks to my friend Mark, Captain Jim White of White Ghost
Charters, and US Outdoorsman Central for making this trip
one I'll never forget. What a great time.
