Lewis Blue's Winning
Trip to
Strike King Charter's
Oswego, NY
If you have ever wondered what you would find at the end of the rainbow, I believe I have the answer. I
found Strike King Charters there and my trip with them is what all sportsman dreams are made of.
My childhood friend and I met at Strike King Charters to create more memories we can reflect on when
we tell our fish stories and Captain Dan didn’t let us down. When we met Dan and his son June, short
for Junior, we met a team that shared our passion for the outdoors and especially for fishing.
Captain Dan is a jolly man with endless fish stories told with such excitement you feel like you were
there with him. His son Jr is a young man with 30 years worth of fishing knowledge crammed into his
short fifteen years.
Our trip started out with calm waters and a beautiful sunrise that
just seemed to guarantee that the day would be filled with
excitement. The poles all set, the motor purring like a kitten and
the solid high pitched tone of the downrigger lines slicing
through the water seemed to feed into the growing expectation of
a release. Then it happened the pole went off taking no time at all
to tighten the line the fish came out of the water 50 yards behind
the boat. "It’s a big one" the captain yelled and the fight was on
the fish took line and then ran straight at the boat reversing and
taking line at will.
I managed to bring the fish next to the boat and before I knew it, Jr had it in the net. He is quick, I don’t
think anyone can argue that point. The fish lost the battle and revealed itself to be a 33" 16 pound
Steelhead. YEA… I said steelhead, it’s a hog! The day was filled with hits and lost fish at the boat, due
to our inexperience of big lake fishing. We landed 2 big browns and lost at least five more.
We were sitting there talking about the fish that got away and the
dipsy pole went off. The fish pulled so hard neither Dan or I could
even get the pole out of the pole holder. It reminded me of the
part in the jaws movie when the shark was pulling the boat
backwards and everyone was yelling to cut the line! Well we didn’t
have to cut it after all the fish took care of that 25 pound test with
no problem at all. The captain said it was probably a King Salmon
and I tend to believe him either that or a shark.
I have never been on a charter where the Captain and his son
worked so hard to get you fish and show you a good time. Treat
yourself and book a trip with him you won’t be sorry. This ranked
right up as one of the best charters I personally have ever been
on. Thanks Dan and June, I have reeled that fish in a dozen times
in my dreams already.
