Fred Vitarius winning Deer Hunt to Pickett Hill Guide Service in Vermont
I would first like to thank USOC for running such a great
organization, giving everyday sportsmen/women opportunities of a
lifetime...
My winning muzzleloading hunt to Bennington Vermont with Pickett
Hills Guide Service has been one of those trips of a lifetime.
Proprietors George and Jo Anne Prouty greeted us warmly on our
arrival, quickly making us feel like one of the family.. Welcoming us
into there home and showing us our quarters, with large bed rooms,
private bath, and a grand living space to set at night to contemplate
the days adventures.   
Heading into the woods scouting later that afternoon, I quickly
realized what kind of woods Vermont  had to offer from thick pine/fir
forests to groves of mature oak/beachnut stands , loaded with fresh
ground scrapes, tree rubs and deer runs. After scouting we headed
into a quaint little town nestled in Vermont's Green Mountains,
easily obtaining our out -of- state license, then back to the house for
one of George & Jo Anne's great home cooked meals.
Saturday greeted us to chilly temps, with deer within hearing
distance and a quick sighting threw the thick woods..The rest of the
week treated us to snow and rain but that didn't stop us from
hunting hard everyday.
Not harvesting a buck was a disappointment but not for the lack of
trying and truly thats why we call it hunting don't we? George took
us for a ride in the rain to show us some hot spots for his turkey,
coyote, and moose hunts, making sure to point out some of the
prettiest trout waters I've ever seen. It's a beautiful county for
sportsmen and nature lovers alike..
I guess the thing I'll treasure the most about our trip to Pickett Hills
is I'm sure to have made a friend for life, and will soon be back with
George & Joanne for an Ice fishing trip this winter.
