K&G Lodge and
Charter Fishing
How do you even start a write-up about such a great time? With the cost of
gas, it is so hard to find a small vacation near home, and this was perfect.

We arrived at K&G Lodge at a little after 12. When we got to the office, we
were greeted by Kristi Gehring and she signed us in and informed us
Captain Greg was aboard at Wright’s Landing waiting for us, since there
might be a storm heading in. When we arrived, we were greeted by a 40-
foot boat – what a boat it was.
Captain Greg Gehring met us himself and helped us aboard.
We were not out long, and Jeffrey Beliueau, our first mate, was
very efficient and set us right up. We were not out long when
we had our first fish, a nice 7-pound salmon. Then a while later,
Dave got the big one of the day, too small to keep, oh well.

Fishing slowed down as the sun came out. While things
slowed, though, Jeff told us about himself some. It was quite
interesting to find out that Jeff is here for the summer working
and is actually from Connecticut.
It was just about then that I hooked a big one. What a fight – I thought I was going
swimming. Jeff cleared the back of the boat and I anchored myself there, but right near
the back of the boat, the fish made one more run and we lost it. Now I have a story of
the one who got away. Greg and Jeff said it looked to be at least 20 pounds.
But that is fishing… What a great time. I would go again in a minute, but it was not
done yet. We won dinner and lodging also, so we next headed for the lodge. Wow,
what a place. The rooms are large and comfortable, clean and well-taken care of. I
have seldom seen rooms this nice, other than in a five-star. I was impressed.
We settled in and went to Kristi’s Restaurant, which is part of the lodge, where we
could sit and have a lovely dinner inside or outside overlooking the large heated
pool and pavilion. Also there are cottages there. The place was so calm and
peaceful. Everyone was so nice, and the smiles from them made you feel right at
home. At the restaurant, we were greeted by our waitress, young Christine
Clemmons, a smile so wide she beamed.

The meal was great and timed so perfectly. When we started we had a fabulous
appetizer and then salad. For the main course I had shrimp scampi, and Dave had a
lovely broiled seafood platter. The portions were great and we had enough to bring
home for lunch the next day. Our chef Frank Soranno made the food not only taste
great, but the dishes looked as great as the taste. We finished with raspberry
cheesecake. And let’s not leave out that Thursday special, which included a free
bottle of wine with the meal.

I must admit when I won the fishing trip I never expected to enjoy myself as much as I
did. And we are definitely making plans to go back, not only to eat, but to spend a
night or two. With gas so expensive, and this so close, it’s a get-away without killing
a budget. I’m looking forward to going back.

We would like to thank Greg and his wife and family and also his employees for such
a wonderful time at K&G lodge. We would also like to thank NYOC and Jim and Dan
for making this possible. We highly recommend stopping by for a great dinner and a
night away at K&G Lodge with Greg and his family.

Thanks again,
Brenda VanWie and Dave Wolfersberger
