| Walleye Queen Sportfishing, Ohio. Trip winners story: Jay Hess |
| Dear Jim, Dan and US Outdoorsman Central members, In May of 2009, I received a call from the NYOC telling me I had been drawn as the winner of an eight hour walleye charter on the beautiful Lake Erie. Due to scheduling conflicts, the trip was postponed until the 2010 season. After numerous conversations with Captain William Nowak of the Walleye Queen, we settled on the date of May 24th for the excursion. We arrived on May 23rd to our hotel The Lake Erie Lodge, the rooms and accommodations were more than applicable for our one night stay along with reasonable prices. The hotel was less than a mile from the marina where the boat was docked and fishing licenses were available for purchase next door to the hotel. Shortly after our arrival and check in we had been referred to the Oregon Inn for dinner. The atmosphere, food, and service was excellent. The restaurant was within 10 minutes of the hotel and the prices were affordable. After a quick breakfast my Father(Jerry Hess), Brother(Troy Hess), Nephew(William Scalisi), and Myself(Jay Hess) all met Captain Bill at the docks for our 7 o'clock departure. After boarding the boat we traveled roughly a half an hour to our fishing destination. When we arrived to the spot in which we were to fish Captain Bill decided it would be best to troll using plaining boards. Captain Bill was right on the money with his location and decision to troll. We fished in about 20 ft of water at 2 mph using spoons as a lure. Not long after we started our troll the action became fast and furious, at one point we had five rods tripped all at once. We didn’t have time to secure the fish we just unhooked them let them drop to the floor and grabbed another rod! We had our limit by 12:30 and we headed back to the marina. They had a fish cleaning service just outside of the marina and the Captain was nice enough to drop our catch off for us. When we left for our trip home we made the quick stop in to the cleaning station to grab our fillets and we were on our way. Captain Bill was very professional and he had plenty of room upon his boat for the four of us. The trip was more fun then we could have hoped alone with a complete success. We would recommend his services to anyone. If anyone is looking for an outstanding experience that you are sure to remember then Captain Bill Nowak and the Walleye Queen is for you. Thanks to all, Jay Hess |
