NY
Winning Bass Fishing Trip

Well let me first start by thanking
USOC for having a great program.
When I first joined I had my
doubts about winning, till I
received a phone call from a
friend who convinced me to join,
only to tell me he received a
phone call from Jim Hanlon and
Dan Leonard informing him that
he won an Ohio Bow hunt. 6
months later I received a call
from the guys informing me that I
won a 2 person guided bass trip to
N.Y. I got this call the beginning of
January 2011. I Immediately
asked my son Matt,if he wanted to
join me and then I contacted the
guide Randy Yager, and was told
that opening day was not till
June18th. It was a long and
anxious wait. I began making
reservations for hotels and
camping cabins only to find that
they were booked solid for June
and into July. I was getting
worried I would not find a place.
Finally I got reservations at the
Stonefence Inn. Finally the day
came and Matt and I drove to
upstate NY, for our much
anticipated trip. Once we arrived
we called Randy for a time and
place to meet.

LOREM HIGH SCHOOL / SPRING_SUMMER 2009 / VOLUME 01
We agreed upon meeting at 7 AM
at the Log Cabins not too far from
where we stayed. Upon arrival
Randy had us board the boat and
off we went. That morning was a
slow start with few bites. Randy
had asked if we had done much
fishing and I said we had done some
Striper fishing and Cod fishing a
couple of saltwater boys. After
awhile we bagan getting bites and
Randy tried to break me of the habit
of letting the fish run and setting the
hook deep. Seems I kept pulling the
bait right out of the fishes mouth.
Matt on the other hand caught on
quite quickly and had landed
several fish early. After some
coaching from Randy, I learned
that I only needed to lift the rod
slowly and let the fish do the
work. We had moved a couple of
times, trying different favorite
locations that Randy often
frequented. I have to say that we
caught a fair amount of fish that
day considering it was one of the
hottest days of the year for that
region. It seemed that Randy did
not want to go home we fished
from 7 AM till 5 PM with only
about a 45 minute lunch break in
between. Randy had taken the
boat over to the only restaurant
on the lake that had air
conditioning and it was much
welcomed.
We agreed to Fish the
ST LAWRENCE RIVER the next
day and again agreed to meet
Randy at 7AM. When we arrived
at the ramp Randy had the boat in
the water and was waiting for us,
we arrived at 7 on the dot. We had
to pack a lunch as there aren,t
any places to eat along the ST
LAWRENCE. We headed out
immediately and began catching
fish right away. We tried a
different technique as Randy
explained that with the current
and the wind fishing would be a
bit of a challenge. We again tried
several locations and even though
they were not producing like
Black Lake produced Randy
moved in and around several rock
piles, jetties, and other structure
that Randy favors. even though
the fishing was not as productive
as Black Lake in terms of
numbers some of the fish were
larger. Again it was about 4:15 PM
and my son Matt said he was
wiped out. Randy said let’s try
one more spot before we call it a
day. Randy gave us 2 full days of
fishing without a doubt, and again
dropped us off at 5PM.
I would like to thank Randy for
a fine trip and I posted his website
above so Please look him up. i
hope you have as much fun as we
did.
We both renewed our
memberships last month.
Thanks USOC
